Cleaning and Polishing your Jewelry

Polishing jewelry pieces regularly will take care of most tarnishing and cleaning problems, and help reduce the chance of skin irritation.

Our polishing cloths are designed with a treated interior cloth for cleaning and an exterior cloth for polishing.

Clean your jewelry with the inside cloth first.  Moisten the cloth slightly for extremely tarnished pieces.  After your jewelry is cleaned, then lightly buff it with the outer cloth to create a rich luster.

If your jewelry needs a little more attention, use the simichrome polish sparingly by applying a small amount with a clean cotton cloth.Wipe off excess polish and buff the surface to a brilliant finish using a soft cotton cloth.  This polish cream works well on 14K or 18K gold, sterling silver, titanium, stainless steel, copper, and bronze metals.

Please note that these polishing materials should never be used to clean gemstones, pearls, or 24 karat gold.  Avoid the use of chemical dips and only allow a professional jeweler to clean your fine jewelry.

Some Special Pieces

Avery Art Glass

Remove your Avery Art Glass jewelry during vigorous physical activity and avoid contact with chlorinated water, harsh chemicals, or perfumes.  Store your jewelry separately in our soft flannel bags for added protection.

High Standards of Durability:
The art glass beads used in James Avery designs are remarkably resistant to cracking and breakage.

We require that all our glass beads be annealed, as we have found that beads that were thoroughly annealed in the final steps of their creation have few internal stresses and are very durable.  Annealing is a method of very slowly cooling the glass (overnight at a minimum) to relieve the internal stresses after the bead is formed in the fire.  This process ensures that our art glass beads are just as durable as many of the natural stones carried in our product line.

Only beads that have passed rigorous impact and other tests are used in the creation of Avery Art Glass Charms.

Clean the art glass beads using a soft brush and a mild solution of lukewarm, soapy water.  The sterling may be cleaned using our polishing cloth, or visit our retail stores for assistance.

Bracelets

Link Style
Designs with moveable parts will require maintenance over time due to the metal friction (metal rubbing against metal) that occurs during normal wear.  Periodically checking the loops connecting the links will help prevent accidental loss.  Constant or daily wear will greatly accelerate the need for rebuilding worn links.  We suggest you remove your bracelet when participating in vigorous physical activities.

Cuff and Hook-On Style
Cuff and hook-on bracelets should fit comfortably on your wrist without the need to bend or reshape to put on or remove.  These types of bracelets should be slipped on from the narrow side of your wrist.  Drastically bending or reshaping these style bracelets can cause the wire to weaken and break.

Please ask one of our sales associates to assist you in selecting the appropriate size.
